4.500 kilómetros en sólo 63 días sobre la Antártida congelada. 311 kilómetros en un solo día, récord de velocidad en el continente blanco. Todo ello ha sido posible gracias al Catamarán Polar, un trineo arrastrado por gigantescas cometas ideado por Ramón Larramendi e inspirado en la tradición inuit.

Como en un barco, es posible navegar en él sobre el hielo de los plateaus polares durante días, cubriendo distancias inmensas impulsados tan sólo por la energía del viento. Se trata del primer vehículo polar movido íntegramente por energías renovables, de acuerdo con el espíritu reflejado en el Tratado Antártico.

La Expedición Transantártica 2005-06 ha sido el mayor reto al que se ha enfrentado este auténtico velero de los desiertos polares. Ramón Larramendi, Juan Manuel Viu e Ignacio Oficialdegui han recorrido el continente antártico con temperaturas extremas y vientos que causaban una sensación térmica de hasta -70 ºC. Una magnífica aventura inspirada en la gesta de Ernest Shackleton.

As if it were a boat, it is capable of travelling over the surface of the ice at the polar plateaus, covering vast distances powered only by the wind energy. It is the first polar vehicle totally driven by renewable energy , in accordance with the Antarctic Treaty.
